Capture pollutants, then destroy them.

I design adsorbents that pull dyes, metals and pharmaceuticals out of water, and pair them with photocatalysts so that what is captured is also broken down, not just moved somewhere else.

A pollutant molecule caught in the pore of an adsorbent, then broken apart by light.

Research

What the group works on

Layered and porous adsorbents

Layered double hydroxides, zeolites, clays and biochar, tuned to remove dyes, Cr(VI) and heavy metals from water, and judged with isotherm and kinetic models that hold up to scrutiny.

Capture and destroy

Nb2O5-based materials that adsorb an organic pollutant and then degrade it under light, so the adsorbent regenerates instead of becoming a new waste.

Shaped materials

3D-printed zeolite and layered-oxide monoliths that keep the chemistry of a powder in a form that can be packed, rinsed and reused.
